A Pergola, which is Italian for arbor or passageway, has been erected on the Buchwald Plaza on the southwest corner of South Main and Gambier streets. The steel structure was fabricated by the Mount Vernon Machine and Tool Inc. Additional work will include vines planted on the trellis at left and bushes planted behind the plaza to separate it from a faculty parking lot. Benches will be placed in areas around the plaza. Water has been overflowing the basin of the fountain at Riverside Park recently, leaving puddles in the strip between the fountain and the surrounding walk. The standing water has also become a haven for mosquitoes. Mount Vernon Parks Director Geoff Oliver said the problem seems to be in a valve in the drain, possibly due to some dirt in the valve. He said the problem will be fixed when the fountain is shut down in the fall since they will have to take part of the fountain apart to get to it. (Photo by Joshua Morrison)
