GAMBIER — The annual Harcourt Parish Rummage Sale will draw bargain shoppers to Gambier this week. The event, a popular tradition since 1969, will be held at the Gambier Community Center, 115 Meadow Lane, Gambier.
Kenyon students heading home in the spring donate items as they leave the residence halls, so many items are ideal for the college dorms. For example, there are over 100 lamps and rugs at this year’s sale. There are also coffee makers, book cases, dishes, bedding, fans, shower caddies and clothing; even children’s clothing and toys.
“International students really benefit,” stated sale chairman Kachen Kimmell, “because they often come from far away without a lot of things like winter clothing or lamps or microwaves.”
The sale was open Wednesday to Kenyon students. The rummage sale opens publicly on Friday for all shoppers from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Then on Saturday, there will be a “bag sale” from 9 to 11 a.m.
Most of the sale items are in the gymnasium at the community center. But some items will also be available outside and then there’s a room filled with just linens and bedding.
There’s even a boutique. The boutique offers high-quality items found among the donations including designer clothing. Shoppers may also find jewelry and decorator items.
