FREDERICKTOWN — People are certainly paying more attention now at the intersection of Upper Fredericktown-Amity and Old Mansfield roads. The county recently installed temporary stop signs, with lights, on the east and west sides of the intersection. Previously, only traffic on Old Mansfield Road had to stop.
Rick Sipes and David Phillips, are among the neighbors who petitioned to have the signs installed for safety’s sake. Both of the men, whose property abuts the intersection, are pleased with the results of the stop sign trial so far.
“There are some visibility issues on Fred-Amity when you stop going north on Old Mansfield,” said Sipes. “I haven’t seen any close calls since the signs went up. There still are a few people who ignore the sign, but traffic in general has slowed down.”
Phillips said the road is fairly heavily traveled, so the signs help in safety. He said he believes the signs have also contributed to less through-truck traffic on the east-west route.
