Not a word was spoken in a solemn ceremony this morning when the Mount Vernon Fire Department honored the more than 3,000 American citizens who were killed in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. A flag-raising at half staff and the ringing of a ceremonial bell took place to honor our fallen citizens. The new Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses is rapidly nearing completion on Mansfield Avenue Constructed largely by volunteer labor Church Elder David Hatfield said more than 300 volunteer erected the 45 by 100 foot hall on Saturday. It is annual hose testing time at the Mount Vernon Fire Department. The department has 15,400 feet of attack and supply hose divided among four engines, the ladder truck and backup hoses.
