BLADENSBURG — The Reading Recovery Program at East Knox Elementary School has received a $3,000 youth literacy grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.
“The Dollar General Literacy Foundation is pleased to support the literacy efforts of East Knox Elementary,” said Rick Dreiling, Dollar General’s chairman and CEO.
The school is happy to have that support.
“Each student in Reading Recovery will read multiple books during one half-hour lesson, working towards reading higher level texts independently,” said Reading Recovery teacher Kelly Kidwell. “The Dollar General grant will allow us to purchase magnetic letters, materials to create student writing journals, and the majority of the grant will go towards leveled books for the students to read during lessons and at home for extra reading practice. These materials will be able to be used year after year, benefiting many students at East Knox Elementary.”
