BLADENSBURG — The East Knox School board on Wednesday adopted a financial recovery plan designed to eliminate the fiscal year 2013 deficit and directed the superintendent and treasurer to submit the plan to the Ohio Department of Education. The plan is required by ODE because the district has been placed in Fiscal Caution.
The recovery plan contrasts budget items forecast in May with the latest forecast, and explains the steps taken to address the budget deficit. For example, wages have been reduced by approximately $200,000. That was accomplished by freezing salaries and step increases for certified staff, cutting administrator pay and not replacing one elementary teacher who resigned. Also, 11 teachers, two administrators and five classified employees who retired or resigned were replaced with employees who earn lower salaries. Fringe benefits have been reduced $148,000, resulting in a total salary and benefit reduction of $338,000.
