MOUNT VERNON — A preconstruction meeting for the Howard Township stormsewer project took place Thursday morning at the Knox County Commissioners’ office as paperwork was signed to have contractors proceed with the project. Construction is to begin in the next few weeks and is to be completed by the end of the year. Attending the meeting were Amy Schocken of CDC of Ohio; Knox County Engineer Jim Henry; and Knox County Commissioners Teresa Bemiller, Roger Reed and Allen Stockberger.
The project consists of boring a trench section for the storm sewer from U.S. 36 north to Elizabeth Street. Funds for the project are coming from 2011 Community Development Block Grants.
Henry stressed his only concerns with the project were start and stop points as well as the contractor’s beginning and ending dates and the possibilities of crossing sidewalks. He said it should be a 60-day project to complete and should be finished on Dec. 15. Contractor for the job is Small Sand and Gravel.
