CENTERBURG — A Mount Vernon woman told the Ohio State Highway Patrol she was putting on makeup when her car crashed Saturday at 2:55 p.m. The patrol said Rhonda Brown, 52, was driving west on U.S. 36 west of Centerburg when her car left the road on a long left curve.

The car left the right side of the road into a ditch, hit the end of a culvert pipe, went airborne and hit a power pole. The impact broke the pole in two places with the top part falling across the car.

Power company linemen said the pole carried a 7,400-volt line. The outage affected 400 customers. Brown had to be rescued from the wreck by Central Ohio Joint Fire District firefighters. She was flown to Grant Medical Center in Columbus by MedFlight helicopter with no life-threating injuries. U.S. 36 was closed until the crash was investigated.
