MOUNT VERNON — Knox County Democrats met for their annual Jefferson-Jackson fundraising dinner last night at The Alcove Restaurant with over 100 party members, guests and speakers present. Congressman Tim Ryan, representing Ohio’s 17th District, was the keynote speaker and several candidates also spoke.
Knox County Party chairman Adam Gilson opened the evening stating, “We know we’re on the right side of history. We’re moving forward and we know we’re going to win.”
“Today, we’re blessed enough to be in Ohio in 2012, to be in a state that will determine what direction the country will go in because Mitt Romney can not win,” stated Ryan in his opening remarks.
“We have the ability to block his ability to become president of the United States and we are going to block his ability to become president,” he continued.
He said that Romney and Paul Ryan have a vision that, “We’re all on our own. Pay for your own health care. If your kids get sick, don’t worry, the insurance may take care of you in the free market or it may not.”
