MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon Fire Department was dispatched at 3:43 a.m. today for a house fire at 21 Madison Ave., in Clinton Township, Mount Vernon.

Information was relayed to units while en route that a small child was trapped inside. Once on scene, at 3:47 a.m., firefighters found the front half of the home fully involved. When personnel entered the front of the home, they found an unresponsive victim. Paramedics called for a medical helicopter to meet them at Knox Community Hospital to transport the patient to a higher level of care. Also transported to Knox Community Hospital were an adult male and female.

The Mount Vernon Fire Department extinguished the fire with 14 personnel, in addition to mutual aid assistance from College Township.

The cause and origin are under investigation.
