The 28-mile trail is Ohio’s 8th official water trail and encourages recreational small water craft activity as well as wildlife watching, fishing and sightseeing.

The trail received the official state designation which is given to a river or creek that is primarily used for recreational canoeing and kayaking. For a stretch of water to achieve that designation it needs to include a public planning process, maps and signage, access points, safety information, local government partnership and a logo.

Marshall noted the unique joining of the Kokosing and Mohican rivers that generated the informative, high quality map representing both the Kokosing and the Mohican water trails. The maps are funded through an ODNR grant.
