MOUNT VERNON — A change in one business, a new local ownership and the relocation of three others are among the new business transitions which have recently taken place around Knox County.
New ownership is now in place at Eastend Laundry and Tanning, 818 Coshocton Ave. Taking over the long-time business on Aug. 13 were Troy and Laci Showalter. Working previously in the construction business, laundry and tanning is a new venture for Troy.
“We wanted to start a business, and this became available; so we just decided to go for it,” he said. No major changes are planned as Showalter wants to keep the business consistent with the way it’s been operating. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
New bulbs have recently been installed in the tanning beds, and Showalter invites customers to stop in and check out the daily specials they are currently running.
Eastend Laundry and Tanning is open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. Last laundry goes in at 8:30 p.m., and last tanning begins at 9:35 p.m.
Business made a change over the summer at 3 Public Square when Custom Bridal Creations converted to Whimsy Twins Boutique. Owner Karen McClellan had been doing custom sewing and alterations as well as offering bridal dresses for young brides but decided to change her course and open a boutique. “The whole look of the shop was just not me,” said McClellan about her decision. “I’m more about the color ... I like the recycling, and the natural and organic stuff we have.” A bright, colorful display now greets customers as they walk into Whimsy Twins Boutique.
Recycled and up-purposing items are among the offerings at the boutique where shoppers can find dresses, blouses, purses, hats, belts, decor items and even small furniture items. “These items have been used before and we found a new use for them,” said McClellan. “And sewing and alterations kind of goes along with that because people are re-using their things and not just getting rid of them.”
