The annual drive to collect Coats For Kids kicks of Monday and runs through Oct. 31. Participating in the drive are, from left, Joann Payne, Interchurch; Jon Jackson, Salvation Army; Debbie Gault, Gault’s Cleaners and Cindy Higgs, president of the Kiwanis Club. Each year donated coats are cleaned free of charge by Gault’s cleaners. Area residents are encouraged to check their closets for unused coats that can go to kids in need. There are 31 boxes, like the one in the foreground, in schools and businesses around the county where the coats can be left. Since 1987, 14,504 coats have been donated for kids.
