MANSFIELD — On Saturday, the METRICH Drug Task Force along with multiple law enforcement agencies from within Seneca, Ashland, Knox, Marion and Richland counties participated in a “Prescription Drug Take Back” event.

The METRICH region agencies took in 634 pounds of medication in the one-day event. Lt. Ken Coontz stated that he received many positive comments from the community, and the participating law enforcement agencies were very pleased by the community response.

A total of 88 pounds of drugs were turned in from Knox County. Other area totals included Seneca County, 72 pounds; Richland County, 180 pounds; Marion County, 186 pounds; Ashland County, 108 pounds.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office and the Mount Vernon Police Department have permanent drug disposal kiosks for area residents to take advantage of.
