MOUNT VERNON — The future is uncertain for the building which housed the former First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) at 110 E. Vine St. The structure was sold at auction on Oct. 1 to Joel Mazza.
A long-time Mount Vernon resident currently living in Worthington, Mazza told the News he doesn’t have any specific plans for the building at this time. Mazza has extensive experience in redeveloping old buildings, having just finished one building in downtown Columbus.
“The church is unique, and this would be a large project,” said Mazza, adding that the inside is “immaculate” with new electric and heating recently installed. Mazza said he has had a few organizations approach him who have an interest in the property, which was built in 1915. “But as of right now there are no plans,” he said.
Mazza added that possible uses for the building could be for educational or governmental purposes or even a music/arts venue. “Right now I’m not really sure.”
