MOUNT VERNON — The campus of the Mount Vernon Developmental Center was alive with energy and excitement at the 2012 Fall Festival.
A large crowd delighted in the carnival like atmosphere that included games, displays, animals, music and food on a beautiful fall day. The Knox County Sheriff’s department had their water rescue equipment on display, the Ohio Department of Transportation provided one of their trucks, and who doesn’t like those bright, shiny red fire trucks, provided by the Mount Vernon Fire Department? The Fall Fest, held Sept. 19, was a huge success with close to 500 people attending.
Generous contributions from the MVDC Parents and Friends Volunteer Association (PFVA), as well as community businesses sponsored the festival which benefited not only the residents of MVDC, but also many other individuals with developmental disabilities living in Knox County and surrounding areas. Some delighted in fishing at the pond and catching a fish for the very first time, while others took a relaxing ride on the pedal boats.
Local officials, including Commissioners Teresa Bemiller and Roger Reed; State Representative Margaret Ann Ruhl; City Council members, Mike Hillier and Susan Kahrl, and Sheriff David Barber dropped by in support of the event.
