The purchase of the $28,000 unit, which was already part of this year’s budget, should be complete within three to four weeks, fire chief Chris Menapace said. A $5,000 grant from the Ariel Foundation will help lower the city’s cost. An additional grant is being sought, Mayor Richard Mavis said.

Menapace told council this is the third unit to be purchased over a three-year period. In the next couple of years, parts for the unit will be discontinued and no service programs will be available rendering the unit obsolete.

One of the benefits of the most recent model, Menapace said, is the blue-tooth capabilities that will send information from the unit to the cardiologist at Knox Community Hospital.
