MOUNT VERNON — Mark Kirk, 23, Mount Vernon, was arrested Tuesday as part of Operation Autumn Sweep Knox County.
Kirk was charged with pandering obscenity involving a minor after a team of law enforcement officials spent hours at his home on Tuesday. Kirk was previously charged with a similar offense in 2009 and was released from community control in 2011.
There are 83 registered sex offenders living in Knox County. Capt. David Shaffer of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office could not be reached for comment on how many arrests were made or how many addresses were confirmed Tuesday. The teams will continue to check compliance today.
Led by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, the sweep involved detectives from the Mount Vernon Police Department and agents from the U.S. Marshals Service, Ohio Adult Patrol Authority, Knox County Adult Court Services, Mount Vernon Municipal Court Probation, Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children. The Knox County Prosecutor’s Office and the Mount Vernon City Law Director’s Office also participated in the sweep.
