MOUNT VERNON — Local farmers markets are increasingly popular as evidenced on Saturday mornings at Mount Vernon’s public square from May through October. Soon residents will be able to buy locally produced foods year-round thanks to the vision of the Woodward Development Corp. and the farmers market. A local foods market is slated to open in November.
The market will be located at 107 S. Main St., Mount Vernon, the current location of the Knox County Convention & Visitors Bureau. The visitors bureau will move offices to the second floor; their literature will still be available on the first floor.
Cheryl McKee manages the Mount Vernon Farmers Market and will also be the Local Foods manager. “We’re behind those people who get up in the morning and work to produce fresh, healthy foods,” she said.
