MOUNT VERNON — An update on construction of the various features at the new wastewater plant site in Howard was given Thursday morning when Knox County water/wastewater superintendent Ray Withers met with the Knox County Commissioners. Photos were shared by Withers which showed the progress on a screening room, a new digester and numerous pieces of equipment recently installed at the plant. Current plans are to have the plant in service by January 2014 with a final completion being sometime in July.
Reseeding of grass was recently completed at the Bladensburg site by Beheler Construction. When the new plant went into service in May, the grass seed didn’t set very well due to the dry summer. Specific areas received a new seeding treatment to give the site a uniform seeding of grass. “I’m impressed with Behelers’ work ethic. They really have done a nice job,” said commissioner Roger Reed.
