MOUNT VERNON —Construction is expected to start Oct. 29, on a storm sewer and sidewalk project along East Main Street in Danville. Installation of the 12-inch line is expected to correct drainage problems along Main from Inwood Street to Hillcrest Drive.
A preconstruction meeting was held Thursday between representatives of Edsel’s Excavating of Danville; Amy Schocken of CDC of Ohio, Knox County’s grant consultant; and a representative of Bird and Bull Engineering, the firm which planned the project.
The project should take about two weeks, weather permitting, said Ed Buckland of Edsel’s Excavating.
The bid price of the project is $37,459 and is being paid for by last year’s Community Development Block Grant money.
Buckland said the area on the north side of Main Street has had problems for years with standing water after rains. The line being installed will connect to an existing storm sewer near Hillcrest. Old utility lines, and lines not located where they’re supposed to be, have sometimes been a problem in Danville, but with the information provided by Bird and Bull and his company’s experience in Danville, he is confident they will not have any problems on that front. His biggest concern is a fiber optic cable located near the east end of the line being installed. Fiber optics are expensive to repair if damaged.
