CENTERBURG — A fire that apparently started in the garage heavily damaged a home at 2796 Rich Hill Road, just west of Centerburg Sunday afternoon. The Central Ohio Joint Fire District got the alarm at 12:55 p.m. to respond to the Michael Chesbrough home.
Fire Chief Joe Porter said his department was on the scene in eight minutes and knocked down the fire in about six minutes. When they arrived, the two-car attached garage was down and fire was advancing into the kitchen and living room.
Porter said there was significant fire and smoke damage to the area. He estimated the total damage at $60,000. There were no cars in the garage.
Since the home was out of the village of Centerburg without fire hydrants the department called for mutual aid from Porter-Kingston, Hartford and BST&G departments for tankers. Porter added the cause of the fire is undetermined and the state fire marshall has been called to determine the cause .
