MOUNT VERNON -- Within about 24 hours of first being told the building they were living in was being closed because of fire code violations, families packed up their possessions and vacated their rooms in the eastern building of the Curtis Inn.

CENTERBURG -- Boxes of two kinds of melons (cantaloupe and honeydew) and sweet potatoes, bags of onions and red potatoes, romaine lettuce, containers of Greek yogurt and packages of bagels and Jell-O were all stacked outside the entrance to Centerburg Church of Christ, waiting for people from all over Knox County to come and collect them.
