MOUNT VERNON — Cosmetology was the featured program Thursday at the Knox County Career Center school board meeting. Instructor Becky Worby and student Cheyenne Wood talked about the junior class curriculum, and instructor Sherry Curry was assisted by students Kirsten Gleason and Courtney Peters in describing the senior year cosmetology program. Adult cosmetology coordinator and instructor Starcy Kight, along with recent graduate Brittany Coffey, discussed the adult cosmetology program.
During the public participation portion of the meeting, a community member asked the board to consider reconfiguring how the board sits during meetings. He said it is often difficult to hear because the board members’ backs are to at least half of the audience, and he would prefer that all the board members face the community members in attendance.
Before the board approved the most recent five-year financial forecast, treasurer Tracy Elliott said, like all school treasurers, it is tricky trying to project into the future. She said, “We just don’t know what is going to happen at the state level.” She also said the school is currently spending more than it is taking in, but thanks to a healthy cash balance, it is financially all right at this time.
