MOUNT VERNON — Three area residents are vying for a spot on the Ohio State Board of Education.
Voters in Knox County will have to decide between Michael Collins, Kristen McKinley and John Stacy as the 6th district member of the state board.
Collins is a marketing executive who has directed many regional events, including Red, White & Boom and the Columbus Marathon. He serves as president of Promotions One Inc., and is the marketing consultant for the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.
The Westerville resident has served as a member and president of the Westerville City Schools Board of Education and as chairman of the Westerville City Schools Levy Campaign. Additionally, Collins is a former director of the Center for Community and Educational Planning at The Ohio State University and the Center for Community Education at the Ohio Department of Education.
McKinley is a staff attorney for the Ohio Association of Public School Employees. The current representative of the 6th District, the Columbus resident has spent many years involved with cases related to the state’s education system.
She currently serves on the Capacity Committee, Advocacy and Outreach Subcommittee, and Budget Committee. McKinley also served two years on the National Association of School Boards of Education Board of Directors. McKinley received her bachelor’s degree in economics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Stacy has more than 25 years of public service. He is the Executive Director of the Autism Society of Ohio, the Executive Director of the St. John Learning Center and Adjunct Faculty member at the University of Phoenix.
Stacy has served on the school board for the Academy of Columbus and Great Western Academy, two urban charter schools, and has been a legislative aide in the Ohio House of Representatives. The Columbus resident received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Mount Vernon Nazarene College.
