MOUNT VERNON — Knox County Republicans gathered at the Alcove Tuesday night, watching early results in the presidential race and receiving updates as Knox County precinct results were compiled. Local victories were claimed by Thom Collier in the Knox County commissioner race and Margaret Ann Ruhl won re-election as State Representative to the 68th District.
Knox County Republican Party chairman Chip McConville provided regular reports as precinct results were reported. The first reports came from absentee votes and McConville said approximately 11,000 votes were a record for absentee/early votes.
“We believe the Republican party has the right policies to lead us forward,” stated McConville. He also thanked a number of volunteers who helped during the campaign and those who volunteered at Republican headquarters.
Some of the volunteers participated in the ORCA project, using smart phones at the polls uploading voting information to the Romney campaign so they could identify voters who had not yet voted.
“Knox County is a Republican county,” noted McConville, “We’re pleased that Thom Collier was elected and that Margaret Ann Ruhl will retain her seat.”
Margaret Ann Ruhl went bowling before joining the Republican gathering.
