MOUNT VERNON — A trio of candidates vied for Allen Stockberger’s seat on the Knox County Board of Commissioners during Tuesday’s election. One candidate cleared the way to victory garnering nearly half of the votes — Thom Collier.
Collier (R) received 12,841 votes (49 percent) while his opponent John Booth (D) earned 8,610 (33 percent) and Jim Hughes (I) tallied 4,750 (18 percent).
Thom Collier said he spent the day working. With prior experience in political office, he wasn’t going to spend time worrying; and in his campaign, he has already considered what he would like to work toward in the commissioners’ office.
“Fiscal responsibility in the county is the first thing,” he said. “We’re in good financial shape compared to other counties, but state and local revenues will continue to be a problem and we need to make sure we can meet the needs of the people.”
Collier said he also wanted to work on good infrastructure.
