MOUNT VERNON — The Hand-in-Hand program allows Knox County residents many opportunities to support Hospice of Knox County. Since 1983, Hospice of Knox County has provided quality care for those with life-limiting illnesses and has offered support services to patients and their families throughout their grief process. Donations are depended on for many services, and individual promotions can also offer much support, specifically the current promotion called Hand In Hand.
“Hospice of Knox County is the only not-for-profit hospice program in Knox County and reaching the bordering regions of our county,” executive director Glenda Toth told the News. She explained that Hospice of Knox County each year has a significant amount of their work for which there is no reimbursement. To offset this deficit, promotions such as Hand In Hand are coordinated so that services are available across the county.
Among the programs supported through this promotion are the Camp Hope program, Build a Bear program, the school-based grief program and others. Since 2009, Hospice has provided $150,000 worth of services which have gone unreimbursed, according to Toth.
