CENTERBURG — Student athletes were recognized by the Centerburg Board of Education at its meeting on Monday. The board issued formal commendations to golfer Faithe Carr and cross country runner William Thatcher for their successful participation in the OHSAA state competition in their respective sports.
During the public participation portion of the meeting, varsity baseball coach Joe Smith talked about a proposal for a press box at the baseball field. The Diamond Club subgroup of the Athletic Boosters is raising money to construct a two-story building by the dugout. Smith said the current plans call for the first floor to be used for a concession stand and/or storage, and the second floor would contain the public address system, scoreboard, etc. Following a discussion regarding funding, the board agreed to accept the donation of a press box by the Diamond Club, provided the board will incur no costs related to the project.
