MOUNT VERNON — Adopting a newly revised constitution, electing a vice chairman and appointing a Training and Education Subcommittee topped the business of the quarterly Local Emergency Planning Committee meeting Wednesday.
EMA Director Mark Maxwell said the constitution was last updated in 1989 and most of the changes consisted of updating language and making sure everything was consistent with current law.
The board voted unanimously to adopt the revisions.
Maxwell said that in reviewing the state directives for LEPCs, he found that a vice chairman is required. Katy Breeze, emergency department director at Knox Community Hospital, was elected to complete the term, which will end in August 2013.
Mount Vernon Police Capt. George Hartz and 9-1-1 Dispatcher Clay Foster were named to the Education and Training Subcommittee to look at ways to improve public education about hazardous material handling and to improve training for people who deal with hazardous materials.
