John Feltman of the Knox County Career Center was there to introduce himself and field any questions or concerns the board might have regarding KCCC. Also, the principals and athletic director Derek Busenburg discussed activities in their respective areas and Chip Pozderac reported on the Wounded Warrior fundraising project.

During the business portion of the meeting, the board accepted the donation of: Glass from Jeff Ulrey of Strang Glass; $115 for middle school spelling bee registration from Rotary; $100 from the Knox County Pork Council to the FCCLA; and a $500 anonymous donation for participation fees. It also contracted with the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio for visually impaired services, as required by law, for a student for the 2012-13 school year.

With regard to personnel, the board accepted the resignation of district cafeteria manager Brent Kasler, retroactively effective Nov. 9. It also approved Kathleen Herrmann as tutor for the 21st Century grant program to be paid with grant funds, added Gwen Dugan, Alicia Simmons, Shari Moore, Angelique VanRhoden and Hazel Horne to the classified substitute list and increased certain pay rates to $7.85 to meet the new minimum wage requirements effective Jan. 1. With board member Bob Durbin abstaining, the board also voted to add Shanna Durbin to the classified substitute list.

Other actions taken included approval of school calendars for 2013-14 and 2014-15 and changes to the policy manual made in order to comply with changes in state and federal regulations.
