FREDERICKTOWN — The gear lever was in park but still an SUV rolled down hill from Fast Freddies gas station in Fredericktown and crashed into a water hydrant on Friday.
Fredericktown Police Chief Jerry Day said Jarrod Potts, Fredericktown was in the station when the mishap occurred. His three young children were in the vehicle but they were not hurt in their unscheduled ride.
Day said the car was still in park after the crash. The mystery is how it broke away. It ran downhill about 100 yards before drifting off the right side of the road hitting and breaking off the hydrant. The estimated 140 pound weight of the cast iron hydrant was knocked about 10 feet through the air into the side of a new car in the corner of the Fredericktown Chevrolet lot. The front end of the vehicle was heavily damaged.
