MOUNT VERNON — An incident at Mount Vernon High School on Friday resulted in an employee being treated at Knox Community Hospital.
School superintendent Steve Short confirmed an individual was transported, treated and released, but provided no further information due to confidentiality rules and regulations.
According to the 9-1-1 call placed Friday afternoon from MVHS, “We have a student that hit a teacher in the face. Teacher is down and needs a squad,” said the unidentified caller. “... The teacher is conscious, but with everything, I’m afraid to get her to sit up.”
The caller confirmed the student had been detained.
The News spoke with the injured individual this morning who stated she was recovering but declined to comment further. The employee was hired by the Mount Vernon City School Board of Education in July to serve as a special education/study hall/time-out room aide.
The Mount Vernon Police Department also responded to the scene. The final report was not available at press time.
