MOUNT VERNON — Two openings on the Mount Vernon Police Department have been filled with the hiring of two local men, and two other officers received promotions Tuesday.
The new officers are:
Zachary Miller, 22, a 2008 graduate of Mount Vernon High School and a 2012 graduate of Mount Vernon Nazarene University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
Aaron Collins, 21, a 2009 graduate of Centerburg High School and a 2011 graduate of Central Ohio Technical College with an associate degree in law enforcement technology. He also received his Ohio Peace Officer Training Certification from COTC.
Collins will begin work Tuesday, while Miller will attend the Ohio State Patrol Academy in March and should be on the street in June.
Promoted from corporal to sergeant was Robert Morgan, 43, a member of the force since 1999; while Andrew Burns, 38, a member of the department since 2002, was promoted from patrolman to corporal.
