MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon City Council is one step closer to acquiring an “eye sore” on Coshocton Avenue that will eventually rid motorists of a traffic nightmare at a confusing intersection.
Council heard a first reading on legislation that will allow the city to purchase the former Clark gas station, 820 Coshocton Ave., near Vernonview Drive and Yauger Road.
Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis told the News the site will be purchased for $150,000. The agreed upon price came after negotiations where the city remained determined to offer no more than the $150,000 appraisal price.
Motorists traveling west on Coshocton Avenue will be able to turn left on Center Street for the first time since 1969. Dave Glass, safety-service director said traffic will be monitored in the area during December and January, after which, a long-term recommendation will be made to council.
