MOUNT VERNON — Health insurance options were discussed by the Knox County Board of Health when it met Wednesday evening at the Knox County Health Department. As the health department has long-time been using the Knox County health insurance plan which will soon be realizing premium increases, optional insurance plans were being explored in an effort to find a less expensive plan.

The board of health currently picks up 85 percent of the premium for a single employee and 80 percent for an employee with a family. Unable to find a more attractive proposal, the board decided to stay with the Knox County health plan which reportedly will reflect a 22 percent increase for individuals and a 39 percent increase for families.

Deductibles are raising from $100 to $250 for an individual and from $250 to $500 for a family. Out-of-pocket expenses are being capped at $500 and $1,000, respectively, a change from earlier figures at $2,000 and $4,000. Generic drugs will see an increase of $5 up to $10.
