GAMBIER — Unauthorized fire hydrant use and the revised village zoning code were topics discussed Monday night at the Gambier Village Council meeting.
With all council members in attendance, as well as village solicitor Clinton Bailey and administrator Suzanne Hopkins, council navigated a number of items. The meeting was also attended by Kenyon College chief business officer Mark Kohlman.
The council heard first and second readings on a number of ordinances and discussion of an ordinance on cross-connection control for the village’s water system yielded penalties for the unauthorized use of village hydrants.
Council member Audra Cubie described the unauthorized use as “theft of utility.” Betsy Heer suggested a penalty of $1,000 and additional discussion revealed that it has been an issue involving Kenyon construction sites.
