FREDERICKTOWN — As December traditionally brings out the spirit of giving, Fredericktown area residents will have the opportunity on Saturday to give to one of their own in a fund-raising Christmas Workshop for Jennifer Burkett.
A single mother who is raising four children, Burkett was diagnosed with a brain tumor in March 2011. Having to undergo numerous radiation treatments, Burkett was laid off her job, and therefore no longer has insurance coverage.
The organization of the nonprofit group Ashley’s Angels, which has already conducted numerous fundraisers specifically to aid Burkett, was developed to help fill the needs of Burkett and her family. The Christmas Workshop is the just the latest fundraising effort to raise funds solely for Burkett and her medical expenses.
The Christmas Workshop will feature more than 12 games and crafts for kids where they will buy tickets in order to take part in the activities. A bake sale will take place and donations will be accepted to help with Burkett’s expenses. Santa will be present and will hear the children’s wish list. Letters to Santa can be submitted; and pictures with Santa can be taken, but visitors are asked to take their own camera.
