MOUNT VERNON — A dark and gloomy evening was brightened Sunday as flickers of candlelight circled the globe in an international Compassionate Friends worldwide candle-lighting ceremony honoring all the children around the world whose lives ended too soon.
Knox County Compassionate Friends gathered at the Angels of Remembrance memorial, which is located on the grounds of Opportunity Knox. Sheree Carter, leader of the local chapter, served as master of ceremonies for the candle-lighting. She said it was meant to be a night filled with memories, hope, friendship and love.
Guitarist Cheryl Lawson set the tone with musical numbers which included “You Died Too Young,” “I Will Not Say Good-bye,” and “Tears in Heaven.”
As the candles were lit one by one, Carter talked about the chain of candles going around the world to celebrate what was. The candle-bearers named the person they were honoring and Carter read a list of names of other children who have passed away.
