MOUNT VERNON — Though there are 800 tickets available for each performance, they are selling quickly for the 2012 Knox County Cantata Choir’s annual performance. The performance will be held at the Memorial Theater at 112 E. High Street on Friday, Dec. 21, at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, Dec. 22, at 3 p.m.
Directed by Lynn Jurkowitz, the choir will perform “Tapestry of Light: A Celtic Christmas Celebration,” written by Joseph M. Martin. The entire show is Celtic music including bagpipes played by Virginia Cameron and a special performance by Morningstar, a local Celtic group.
This year’s accompanist is 17-year-old Chris Hedge of Mount Vernon High School. Hedge has been studying piano since he was 5 years old and this year he studied with Jurkowitz and as a senior he is plans to audition for several colleges. This will be his first concert performance accompanying a large choir.
