MOUNT VERNON — Paragraphs Bookstore will open a new chapter in January as owner Anne Storan turns a new page in her personal story and Paragraphs welcomes a new owner. As with all good stories, change at Paragraphs is interesting. Storan looks forward to retiring to Florida with her husband and she will stay in touch with friends at the store.
Lois Hanson, a familiar face, remains with Paragraphs as manager; but in addition to a new sales clerk or two, the store will have a new owner. Karen Buchwald Wright, president and CEO of Ariel Corporation, will purchase the business in January.
Storan loves the book business and noted that it is a constantly evolving industry. “It is changing so quickly,” she said, “we are challenged and excited.” One of the more recent industry changes was the introduction of Kobo, which is similar to a Nook Touch, an e-reader.
“More than ever, the knowledgeable bookseller has never been more important to help people connect with a book that is worth spending time with,” she added.
Wright said she’s buying the bookstore because she didn’t want Mount Vernon to be without a bookstore downtown.
