MOUNT VERNON — A festive air filled the board room of the Knox County Career Center, Thursday. Students from the Hospitality and Facility Care lab had decorated the room with Christmas trees and a big wreath, and also created individual snowmen for each board member prior to the meeting.
Hospitality instructor Robin Stacy said her students have been working very hard on employability skills — like getting along with others — and have also been busy setting up for a lot of banquets.
Other student labs were highlighted at the meeting. Chef & Catering senior students Grant Scott and Chandler Boucher, along with instructor Doreen Bercaw, discussed recent catering activities. Scott said his favorite part is working in the River Room Café. “I like working with food,” he said, “and eating it.”
Boucher admitted that chef & catering wasn’t his first lab choice, but is now glad that is where he ended up. “It’s been a wonderful experience,” he told the board.
Bercaw explained how the iPads are used in the program, and both she and Stacy thanked the board for providing them to the instructors.
