MOUNT VERNON — Updates were heard from the various Knox County department heads when they met Thursday morning with the Knox County Commissioners for their routine quarterly meeting.
Regional Planning Commission Director Darrell Severns announced that a comprehensive plan for 2013 has been finished and adopted. An annual orientation breakfast is planned for 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, and Severns invited all to attend. Meeting agenda following the breakfast will be to announce Planning Commission plans for 2013.
Emily Marth, safety and loss control coordinator, announced that a bloodmobile was parked at the Memorial Building on Thursday and encouraged everybody to donate blood. Workers compensation claims are currently only about one-half what they were in 2011. “Our claims are in good shape. The work force is well and uninjured,” said Marth. Her staff has been working on a new handbook, one she says is leaner and more concise. Marth is working on getting copies of the handbook to all county departments.
Much work has been able to get done recently thanks to a nice stretch of weather, reported maintenance director John Alberts. “We’re in good shape. There’s been no major issues to report,” said Alberts. Exterior projects were recently completed on the Memorial Building. Money left over from this project was used to freshen up some details on the interior lobby. Other projects recently performed include pole lighting at the Chestnut Street parking lots as well as sealing and striping of parking lots. Alberts expects to receive some rebates from switching lighting grids to LED lights.
