MOUNT VERNON — Work on the Coshocton Avenue improvement project has been completed for a while, but the orange construction signs won’t come down until after the first of the year, Mayor Richard Mavis reported at his weekly press meeting.
The problem is that the new signs aren’t ready yet. Mavis said the Ohio Department of Transportation had notified the city that the news signs would not be made until “the end of the year” and so would not be erected until January.
In the meantime, ODOT says the construction signs have to remain up and, as technically still a construction zone, the speed limit remains at 25 miles per hour.
Mavis also reported that ODOT notified the city this week of what paving projects on state routes are scheduled in the city over the next five years. He said the city is a little concerned that a resurfacing of U.S. 36 is not scheduled until 2017. The portion of Coshocton Road that was just rebuilt is not a concern, of course, but the city already had to spend about $40,000 on patching projects on the stretch between Park Street and Sychar Road and on West High Street to the bridge.
The resurfacing of Ohio 13, both north and south, is on the schedule for 2016, and Ohio 661 is listed on the 2015 schedule.
Ohio 586 and Ohio 768 are on the 2017 schedule.
The city’s tree planting project is proceeding, but whether it will be completed this fall will depend on the weather. The city is planting a total of 199 trees at various locations around town. The contractor has to get at least half planted this fall, but the mayor said “we’re making a effort to get them all in.”
