“It appears there was a fight,” stated Capt. George Hartz of the Mount Vernon Police Department but the altercation was over when police arrived. Hartz said the report was incomplete this morning and not expected to be finished until Wednesday.

The Mount Vernon Fire Department also responded to the call and transported Steven Fletcher, 24, and Aaron Conkle, 25, to Knox Community Hospital.

Fire Chief Chris Menapace reported that the squad arrived at Banana Joe’s at 1:39 a.m. and observed Fletcher had suffered blunt force trauma to the head and torso. Conkle experienced blunt force trauma to the head. Both men were stabilized and cervical spine precautions were take, Menapace said.

Fletcher is in serious condition at Grant this morning; Conkle was treated and released Saturday.
