It is a 1990 AM General model M 998, a high mobility multipurpose wheeled, or HMMWV, one and a half ton truck that has been used with 36,000 miles.

After the department received the HMMWV it went to the Knox County Career Center where the auto collision repair class sanded and painted it with supplies donated by NAPA. A Rhino Liner bed liner was applied by Trail City 4x4. Bob Newton’s Colors Unlimited in Centerburg dyed the canvas top and applied decals. All the labor and materials was donated.

The vehicle will be used for tactical operations, access to remote locations, for emergencies in hazardous weather and in parades and public events. Other equipment acquired from the 1033 program is a 2000 Chevrolet truck for towing the Marine patrol boat, patrol rifles, cold weather clothing, footwear, and items for the jail, computers and office supplies.
