BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A former Fredericktown man was shot and killed by law enforcement Saturday after he took a gun into the hospital where his wife was a patient and shot three people.
According to the Birmingham News, Jason Letts, 38, was removed from the University of Alabama Hospital Friday night after he complained about the treatment he felt his wife was receiving as a cardiac patient.
Letts returned to the hospital about 4 a.m. “Once there, he began going room to room, waking up patients and telling them, ‘Get up. They’ve got guns. They’re going to kill us.’”
According to the Associated Press, he fired at law enforcement when they arrived, shooting one officer in the leg and wounding two hospital employees. All are recovering.
It was reported that another member of the Letts family caused a disruption at the hospital on Sunday. The visitor was not on the list of approved visitors.
Letts’ funeral was scheduled for today although no information was released to be published in the News or in local papers, according to Stephen Dawkins of the Clanton Advertiser in Alabama.
Family members made posts on Facebook asking others to not announce the funeral plans online.
Calls to local family members this week were unreturned or did not want to comment.
