MOUNT VERNON — The Executive Committee of the Knox County Republican Party met last week at the Alcove Restaurant in Mount Vernon. It was decided at that meeting to discontinue the annual Lincoln Day Dinner and instead institute an annual Lincoln-Reagan Dinner. This idea was met with unanimous approval by the committee. According to Vice-Chairwoman Mary Jo Hawkins, this change will continue to honor our 16th U.S. President while making our local GOP more relevant to the present generation and our supporters.

“President Reagan is held in very high esteem by our organization, as is President Lincoln, of course. We think it is the proper time to honor them together,” Hawkins said.

The annual Republican dinner is usually held in February or March of each year. When the date and guest speaker has been chosen, further information will be forthcoming.
