MOUNT VERNON — Knox County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. William “Will” Shaffer has been named the 2012 Outstanding Officer of the Year.
Shaffer was selected by his peers for the recognition, which is based on who best represents the sheriff’s office of Knox County.
Sheriff David Barber presented Shaffer with the Officer of the Year plaque at a recent awards luncheon at the sheriff’s office, which was attended by family, friends and co-workers of the award winner.
Shaffer began his career with the sheriff’s office assigned to the Jail Division in 2003. He was promoted to his current position of jail sergeant in 2007 and is currently the midnight to 8 a.m. jail division supervisor.
In addition to completing Ohio Basic Peace Officer and Corrections training, Shaffer has extensive advanced training including being certified as a member of the Marine Patrol Unit.
Barber describes Shaffer as a dedicated, focused team player who makes very good decisions and inspires others, which are all qualities of an effective supervisor.
