Mike Vargo is a Centerburg High School social studies teacher, a Mount Vernon resident, a husband and father of three children, and he is running as an independent for president of the United States.
Vargo stated, “I’m just a common man working for the common good. I want to work for what’s best for American’s. If we want liberty and justice for all, we need to live it and not just give it lip service.”
If elected Vargo would work to cut wasteful spending in the budget, reform the tax code, reduce the deficit, and promote the growth of small businesses and the economy.
Vargo said that he’s always been thrifty and he feels the government should be too. Commenting on the country’s $13 trillion debt, Vargo teaches economics and stated, “You don’t spend what you don’t have. You pay your bills on time rather than making the minimum payments.”
Vargo would also like to see welfare programs cut so that clients become self-sufficient rather than be identified as third or fourth-generation participants. The federal government’s involvement in education is another program he would cut.
Vargo is a certified write-in candidate on the Ohio ballot and the write-in options can be found on both the paper and machine ballot. A list of any write-in candidates is given to the presiding judge at the poll and a voter can ask to see the names if not posted at the precinct. His running mate is Jeff Angeletti of Akron, a long-time friend.
